Anna Adaktilidou came to Tomsk from Greece three years ago to study at the graduate school of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU). Now she receives a Master’s diploma with honors. On the eve of graduation, she shared her impressions of the past years in Tomsk and told why she chose TPU at the time.

Anna earned her Bachelor's Degree on international relations in Greece. But in Tomsk she has chosen a completely different direction – “Economics and management in the oil and gas industry”.

“In fact, my specialties are not that different. On completion my undergraduate study, I worked in a research centre in the country. We explored the Black Sea region: Russia, Ukraine - regarding oil, gas and energy. This topic was interesting for me. And I have decided to continue my education in the industry. Russia has a lot of experience in these topics, so I chose Russia,” - said Anna Adaktilidou.

Recently, she has successfully defended her diploma on “The strategic cooperation between Russia and Greece in the energy sector”. In her work, she offered Russian and Greek experts jointly develop oil and gas deposits in Greece.

"When I decided to continue my studies, I began to search in the Internet for the best technical universities in Russia and found Tomsk Polytechnic University. I liked the university, sent an application and was accepted. Plus I did not want to study in a big city. Tomsk is a very cozy, student city,”- said Anna.

According to her, three years later, she did not regret her choice.

“I would recommend to my friends to go to study in Russia, and especially in Tomsk. Studying here has given me the opportunity to get acquainted not only with Russian culture, but also with many others, because students from around the world study at TPU.

After graduation, there are many options for students: either to stay and work in Russia, or return home or go to another country as a TPU diploma is appreciated everywhere,”- said Anna.

Three years in Tomsk proved productive for the girl: she participated in conferences, wrote scientific articles.

“For academic merits, I received an increased academic stipend. For me it is an important recognition. I also received a certificate in TORFL (Test of Russian as Foreign Language) the second level. But I improved the Russian and English languages,”- said the graduate.

Anna remembers her first day in Tomsk. The city met her with the cold weather.

“I got to Tomsk at first time at the end of September. I got off the plane in a coat, and it was very cold to me. By lunchtime, the sun came out, and then it started to rain, then again the sun came out. Then I realized that the city I chose, just unique. During three months of winter, I could not find shoes it was cold to me all the time. And then I got used to, relaxed, and now I am not afraid of cold,”- said the girl.

After graduation she planed to travel with a friend to Lake Baikal, and then go to Greece.
