What programs in Russian/English do you have?

Tomsk Polytechnic University offers various Bachelor (4 years), Specialist (5 years), Master (2 years) and Postgraduate (3-4 years) degree programs in engineering or humanities in Russian and English. 

Russian language proficiency should not be viewed as a barrier to enroll in our programs. We offer different preparation courses in Russian and English, and Russian language courses to help applicants meet our admission requirements.

In addition, to the degree programs, there is a wide range of short-term courses for international students to help them strengthen their language skills, bridge the cultural gap, and equip them with tools to succeed in their studies.

Do you have any scholarships?

Certain groups of foreigners, Russians living abroad and immigrants can apply for state scholarships on the same terms as Russian citizens once they pass entrance exams or Uniform State Examination (EGE).

Russian Government scholarships are awarded to the most talented students on the basis of their academic merit. The commission looks at your secondary school marks if you apply for a Bachelor program, or at your academic excellence during undergraduate studies if you apply for a Master program. However, there are other scholarships and grants, awarded by the non-government Russian and international organizations.

What is the cost of the program?

The tuition fee at Russian universities varies from RUB 120,000 to 500,000 per year depending on the program, school, and major studies.

Do you have a hall of residence?

Tomsk Polytechnic University has a great campus with 14 modern well-furnished residence halls. Living on campus is an ideal way to transition to university life. The residence hall that hosts international students and local students studying foreign languages is located just a short 5 to 10-minute walk from main university buildings. 

How much will I pay for a hall of residence?

The accommodation fee depends on the type of room you have and can be paid monthly. Shared accommodation with one roommate varies from RUB 800 to 1000. Detailed information on costs, tuition, and fees are available here.

What is the temperature in Tomsk now?

In Tomsk, all the four seasons are well identifiable. They transfer into one another, so it won’t be stressful for you if you come, for example, in summer. All you need to feel comfortable in various climatic conditions is the right clothes, which can be easily purchased in Tomsk. Winters are harsh; Tomsk barely escapes a subarctic classification with a January daily mean of -17 Celsius (1.4 Fahrenheit). The lowest winter temperature recorded is -55°C (January 1931).Please check out weather network before scheduling a campus visit in winter months. The average summer (June to September) temperature is around 20-25°C. The temperature of 30-35°C is typical for the midsummer.

Can I use my visa/master card in Tomsk?

The most convenient way to bring money with you is to have it on a credit card. Major cards (VISA, MasterCard) are accepted at almost all ATM’s so you will be able to withdraw some cash when you need it. You can also open a local bank account in Tomsk with a debit card for spending purposes while in Russia, and transfer money from your home bank account.
